MAS – ENVIRONMENTAL ECONOMICS AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Study program of master academic studies ENVIRONMENTAL ECONOMICS AND CLIMATE CHANGE aims to elaborate the relationship of economics and environmental policy, to develop the ability to understand the environment, economical resources, conceptual basics and practical tools of analysis, quantification and interpretation of indicators of climate change, as well as understanding of climate change, including its scientific, economic and political dimensions. Emphasis is on identification of the adjustment approach: access to social vulnerability, resistance access, (management for improved resilience of ecosystems) and the target adjustment approach (focus on concrete actions to adapt to climate change risks).

Profile of an expert, after completion of one-year master academic studies, should respond to the increasing demands for identification of the key issues in policy-making for contemporary environmental problems. Economic analysis is a must, especially today, in order to determine the usefulness, cost and assessing the effectiveness of different instruments of environmental policy, as well as designing new interventions such as payments for ecosystem services (PES), air pollution, the link between environment and sustainable economic development.

The ability to define and plan solutions will be acquired through the establishment of quality systems and standardization, as well as the system of environmental security through the application of appropriate standards and legal regulations, the establishment of preventive measures and the introduction of supervision as an ongoing operation in the field:

– The assessment, identification and adaptation to risks of climate change, impact assessment of anthropogenic activity on the environment, climate change modeling, integrated environmental monitoring, risk management of climate change and the creation of environmental management systems;

– the prevention of negative human activities (especially manufacturing) that have significant impact on natural ecosystems, controlling the environmental performance of organizations, institutions and companies;

– the effective implementation of corrective actions in cases where the balance is already disturbed, especially when the consequences of climate change are already visible;

– the effective decision-making processes that regulate the impact of human activities on the natural values and resources, provided that the capacity and resources of the environment for sustainable economic development cannot be disturbed by the timely and efficient identification, planning, implementation and monitoring of corrective measures including overall regulation in the field of climate change and environmental protection in general.

Today, there is insufficient number of specialists with competencies for the assessment and management of climate change in the environment. The need for Master Analysts of Environmental Protection , profiled for environmental economics and climate change, exists in various state institutions of public administration, inspection services and research centers of various state, private and public companies, in project teams (for the preparation of planned and urban development documentation, evaluation of studies of environmental impact, studies of protection of certain areas, etc.),  in consulting firms (not only in the field of environmental protection), but increasingly in the field of so-called eco-industries and investment programs, non-governmental sector who prefers the public and effective protection and improvement of the environment and environmental education of the population.
