Bachelor Studies in Environmental Protection
Title of Study Programme |
Basic Studies in Environmental Protection (Applied Ecology) |
Duration of Studies | 4 years
(8 semesters) |
ECTS | 240
(60 ECTS per one academic year) |
Academic title | Graduate Analyst of Environmental Protection |
Study programme objectives
Basic Studies of Environmental Protection educate and train experts in the field of integrated protection, control, restoration and preservation of the environment, based on the synthesis of the geology and the biology, physical-chemical, technological, informational, law and economic aspects and dimensions of the environment. The key is the integration and functional connection of different cognitive disciplines in the field of environmental protection, especially with regard to the manner and quality of life (which is one of the main goals of each education). The need for experts in the field of environmental protection in modern society, science and technology are obvious and indisputable: in the context of complexity and duplication of the spectrum and the total pollution load of the environment, and the need for more versatile and complete knowledge about far-reaching changes in the core of a new ecological paradigm (Environmental Science), which has a conceptual systematicity and integrity in the approach and strategy to protect and preserve the environment.
Type of studies and the outcome of the learning process
Basic Studies of Environmental Protection in the duration of four years (eight semesters).
With the necessary knowledge in key areas of natural sciences (biology, chemistry, physics, geology…) which are aimed at basic patterns and certain aspects of the environment, students acquire basic and functional knowledge in the field of economic and legal principles, criteria and factors, processes and systems of environmental protection. Students learn about techniques and methods of identifying and understanding the dynamic and complex processes in the environment and achieve qualification to a full understanding of the environment, the structure of ecological processes, phenomena and anthropogenic impacts on the state and change of ecosystems. By applying collection, measurement and processing of data, in particular the performance of databases and their systematization in geographical-informational systems (GIS), students acquire the necessary knowledge to control and process design, as well as the choice of methods for understanding the key elements of the ecological status, evaluation and measures of environmental protection. With the application of different methods and techniques for measurement and analysis, in particular pollution and degradation of ecosystems, students are trained in the use of software informational systems (conditional tools and instruments) for the adoption of measures and action planning and programs integrated environmental protection in accordance with the principles and strategy of sustainable development.
Professional, academic and scientific title
After the completion of four-year degree and obtained 240 ECTS student receive professional title – Graduate Analyst of Environmental Protection.
Requirements for admission to the program
Admission of candidates is based on competition announced by Singidunum University and implemented by the Faculty of Applied Ecology – Futura. In order to be applied for the first year of Basic Studies of Environmental Protection should:
а) have completed secondary education in four-year duration;
- b) pass the entrance exam, which consists of a test in biology and chemistry (in accordance with material from high school), and interview (on the basis of which is determined by how the candidate is familiar with environmental problems and interested in this type of study).
Candidates for admission are determined on the basis of the general success achieved in secondary education and the results achieved in the entrance exam. Based on the criteria of the competition announced by Singidunum University, Committee on Admissions compiles a ranking list of applicants. The right of entry to the basic academic studies acquires the candidate, who is ranked in the rankings in terms of number of students planned to enrol (to number 81st on list).
Modes of study and the time required for the execution of any form of study
Studies are carried out through teaching courses which arranged into semesters. Two semesters make up the academic year.
The total duration of academic studies is 4 years (8 semesters). During this period, the student needs to collect 240 ECTS.
